Read here what EUIPO recommends to protect against counterfeiting.
Anti-counterfeiting technologies
In the age of digitalization, it has become essential for companies to protect their brands against counterfeiting. EUIPO has developed a guide to anti-counterfeiting techniques. This guide lists several ways to protect against counterfeiting. Two of the options listed are:
NFC technology enables wireless communication between two electrical devices that are in close proximity to each other. As NFC has a range of 10 cm and only two devices communicate with each other, this technology is ideal for secure transactions. Therefore, NFC technology is used for contactless payment with a credit card or smartphone.
The 1D EAN barcode contains only the GTIN. A 2D barcode can store additional data besides the GTIN (e.g., serial or batch number). 2D barcodes used in conjunction with serialization enable an accurate identification of a product at item level. Once the 2D barcode is attached to the product as a QR code, any consumer can scan the QR code with a smartphone. The response page that appears after the scan allows the product to be identified as an original.
Do you already have the right brand protection measures in place?
With SecIdent, it is possible to integrate counterfeit-proof serial numbers in an NFC chip or a 2D barcode. According to the EUIPO, these are two effective ways to protect your brand against counterfeiting.
